STI Advisory Board Member Gail Gastelu Reports on Ceylon Tea, Part 3 A little bird just informed me that STI is proposing a trip to Sri Lanka exclusively for members. This is music to my ears! No, I had nothing to do with planning this. Peter Goggi and staff have put together an itinerary to visit Sri Lanka and experience the beautiful wonders of the island country with visits to tea plantations and optional additional participation / attendance at the Colombo International Tea Convention where 150th Anniversary of Ceylon Tea events will take place in August. Full details have been circulated by the Tea Assoc. of USA via email to members of STI. If interested, be sure to reserve your place as soon as possible. Read More |

An Interview with Todd Rubin -President and Minister of Evolution of The Republic of Tea(Part 2)

STI: And what advice would you give to people just starting to be interested in specialty teas?
Todd: Wow, there’s lots of things I would love to share. But I think I would distill it down to three points: first, learn the basics of tea. Second, I recommend trying lots of different teas; find the ones you like the most. And finally – we have an expression at The Republic of Tea that we call TeaMind. It’s about having a moment when you’re enjoying your tea, and creating your own tea ritual, whatever that is. I definitely believe everyone should find his or her TeaMind.

“Tea in China” by Peter F. Goggi

I have just completed a weeklong stay in China, where I spoke at the 2015 International Tea Forum in Chibi, Hubei. Hubei is world famous for its teas, such as Cloud-and-Mist Tea , Tuanhuang Tea and Qimen Tea. It also was the birth place (well close by, anyway!) of Lu Yu, author of the Classic of Tea in the 8th century. I have not been to China in a long while and nave never been to Hubei Province, and I was very impressed. The infrastructure from Wuhan (the Provincial Capital) down to Chibi was impressive, modern and possessing more than enough capacity to cover the 130 KM in about 2 hours. Read More |
